RENTAL CARS IN GRAN CANARIA, CANARY ISLANDS
It is hard to define the most beautiful Canary's Islands, because each of them is unique in its own way, for example, Gran Canaria is called a "Miniature Continent ". Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is, jointly with Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the autonomous community of the Canary Islands. Island attracts predominantly European tourists, it’s also famous for having a prominent gay community. Gran Canaria Airport connects the island with Spain mainland and main destinations of Canary Islands. There is also a ferry, that connects the island with Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma and certain cities of Spain mainland. The most popular tourist area on the island is Maspolomas, also known as the Maspalomas Costa Canaria, with developed infrastructure and outstanding resorts, like San Agustin, Playa del Inglés and Meloneras. The main beaches of Gran Canaria are located in the south, with the exception of Las Canteras, that located in the capital. The Maspolomas beach, famous for its natural coastline of sand dunes, is the largest on the island and the most visited. For an active tourist, who prefer to travel all around the island and to see all splendid venues of Gran Canaria, car rent would be a perfect choice, because every village or beach on the island attracts its traveler. The Canary Islands are quite compact and if not in a day, then in a few days it is possible to pass through all the island. However, it does not mean that Gran Canaria has a few places worth to see. Here is a short list of what this wonderful place can offer you:
- Pico de las Nieves is the highest peak of Gran Canaria, the mountain with a height of 1950 meters, a lookout point right in the center of the island, where converge the ravines, that cut off the island.
- Roque Nublo is considered the second biggest peak of Gran Canaria, has a volcanic origin, and was a sacred place for the indigenous people of the island, who used it as a ritual site. We suggest you to go to visit the mountain early in the morning, thus you can avoid daily sun heat and tourists crowd.
- The lighthouse of Maspalomas. The third tallest lighthouse in Spain rises above the city of Maspalomas. It was built in 19th century and used to navigate the ships passing from Africa and America. You will appreciate the remarkable views open on the city from the observation point of the pharos.
- The Church of San Juan Bautista or Arukas church, is a catholic temple located in the old town of Arucas, and its one of the most important sights. The temple was opened in 1917, but it took another 60 years to be built. It is interesting that this masterpiece, representing the Neo-
Gothic style, was built from stone, excavated in neighborhood areas. The church is worth to see from inside as much as from inside, so we suggest you to enter the temple in order to enjoy its exquisite stained- glass windows and complex carvings. - In San Bartolomé de Tirajana you can find a Catholic Church of the Diocese of the Canary Islands.
- The beautiful Jardín Canaria in Gran Canaria is probably the largest botanic garden in Spain. The vast garden is very well structured and planned, and rich of unique plants and rare species. Other highlights include the cactus garden, the waterfall at the south end of the garden, and the huge collection of palm trees. You have to visit the Gran Canaria’s green jewel if you are looking for a place to spend your free time.
- Pueblo Canario. Inspired by Canarian traditional architecture, this is a complex, surrounded by the gardens and palm trees, somewhat like an open-
air museum, a perfect place, where every traveler can enjoy traditional Canarian music, food and handicrafts.

The Cathedral of Santa Ana. This is the oldest church on the island, built in a mixed style. The impressive structure began in a Gothic style, but the work on the Cathedral for four centuries have brought to the building the elements of Renaissance and neoclassicism.
